The idea of the international project Step by step sprang up in the Russian State Library for Young Adults in 2010 during the first visit of Britt-Marie Ingden Ringselle and Kristiina Kolehmainen. It's aim is to create a day by day life story of Swedish and Russian libraries. So every day one photo of the particular day in a library will be posted on the Photoblog. We hope that in a year each of the participating libraries (PUNKTmedis, Serieteket, Russian State Library for Young Adults) will get a vivid image of their own and sister libraries. By the implementation of this project we hope to join IFLA Sister Libraries programme. We believe that this kind of project will help our librarians not only to establish good relations with foreign colleagues and exchange ideas and experience with them, but to be inspired to develop cultural and professional connections.

What is missing? 1.8.2012 Serieteket I've been on vacation for weeks. Among other places, I've visited the town on Halmstad on the West Coast of Sweden. Here, you can find a statue of one of Sweden's most famous comic characters - "91 Karlsson", created in 1932 by Rudolf Petersson. /Ola 10.8.2012 Serieteket A somewhat phallic representation of our city view? This little figurine was made by one of our former employees, Odd Ahlgren, almost fifteen years ago. It has been our "mascot" since then. 16.8.2012 Serieteket Every year in August, the Stockholm Culture Festival arranges "the World's Biggest Book Table", a huge flea market selling books in the streets of central Stockholm. For 5 years, we have shown selected movies in the Culture House cinema - always with free admission. Due to new house rules, we haven't been able to show film for some months. An ill-conceived decision to take away "Tintin" books from a youth library (due to "racist content") ignited an national debate about censorship. Serieteket was not involved in the decision but still got blamed. 27.9.2012 Serieteket While we firmly criticized the decision to put away Tintin books, and we don't agree that most of the books are racist (though a few of them are), we think that the debate got blown out of proportions fast. So much hate! Prejudice! Angry White Men! 28.9.2012 Serieteket The books have now been returned to the youth library. (And Serieteket was never gonna get rid of our Tintin collection a all.) Hopefully, the haters from both sides will cool down. And then we can restart the important discussion about racism. 29.9.2012 Serieteket Anders and Ola went to the Gothenburg Book Fair, Sweden's biggest literary event. We participated in panels, went to see other panels, and met lots of people. We will miss him, of course.
